Harley’s Recovery Story: A Journey to Clearer Vision

Harley’s Recovery Story: A Journey to Clearer Vision

We recently celebrated a significant milestone with one of our brave patients, Harley, the French Bulldog, who has been on a long journey since the start of September to heal a stubborn corneal ulcer

Corneal ulcers generally heal in 1-2 weeks if they are "uncomplicated" but unfortunately for Harley her eye ulcer was not responding to treatment and had multiple setbacks along the way.

Her poor owner was bringing Harley for procedures and weekly check ups for 3 months. Dr Megan said, "Special thanks need to go to Harley's mum for making a very impressive eye drop roster for the family to follow. At times this involved MULTIPLE eye drops sometimes EVERY 2 HOURS, even throughout the night, in order to save Harley's eye. Her owner turned her house into an EYE - I.C.U.

After months of dedicated care at home by Harley's wonderful family, we are thrilled to report that the ulcer has completely resolved. During the final follow-up on 11/12/2025, the ophthalmoscope examination with a special ulcer detecting stain showed that the cornea (the eye surface) has finally healed. The treatment plan has now been simplified to just a lubricating gel and hydration drops to keep the eye healthy and comfortable as Harley is a Brachycephalic (flat faced) dog which means her eyes, like the rest of her breed, are prone to develop all sorts eye conditions.

This has been a fantastic team effort, and we are so proud of Harley and incredibly grateful to the family for their diligence and commitment. It is a wonderful outcome to see Harley happy, comfortable, and no longer needing frequent vet visits for her eye.

We asked Harley’s owners some questions about her:

What is Harley’s favorite thing to do?
Chasing balls, jumping and tug of war.

Does Harley have any nicknames?
Pooch, Poochie or Harley Pooch

When did you first notice that Harley was unwell?
About two or three days before her initial appointment when she was squinting a lot.

Did you research into her diagnosis/condition further?
No; I trusted the advice given by the vets and we were already aware of the condition as Harley had experienced it before.

What advice would you give to others?
Go to the vets straight away, keep on top of the drops and put them in at the correct times. It may seem an inconvenience, but it is 100% worth it when they can potentially lose an eye without the correct treatment.

How has the Healthcare Subscription helped you?
The Gold Healthcare subscription has been a massive lifesaver due to the frequency of her visits.
