Pet of the Month! Bruno!

Bruno’s Story

Bruno has unfortunately been feeling rather unwell for the last couple of months and has been suffering with sore itchy skin due to allergic skin disease, a urinary tract infection and weight loss. During our investigations we also found that Bruno had an enlarged heart.

He was a very brave boy for bloods, scans, x-rays and even had to wear a 24 hour holter monitor to record an ECG from his heart whilst at home.

Bruno is now on medication to help his heart pump better, anti-itch medication to help with his allergies and has had antiobiotics to treat his urine infection and thankfully he has started to get back to his normal self at home.

We will have to continue to manage his allergic skin disease and monitor his heart at home but hopefully we have found a medication combination that works for him and will keep him feeling bright and well!

We asked Bruno’s owners some questions about him:

What is Bruno's favourite thing to do?
Bruno likes to play with his toys. Duck is a current favourite and he likes to eat his food! He enjoys eating and shredding things he shouldn’t (like cotton wool pads, paperwork, birthday cards ) and stealing socks!

Does Bruno have any nicknames?
Bruney, Brunoleski!

What do you enjoy the most about Bruno?
He likes to join us on the sofa in the evening …and it’s his calm time, mostly!

When did you first notice that Bruno was unwell?
We first noticed Bruno was ill the week before Christmas.

Did you research into his diagnosis/condition further?
Yes, there’s lots of online articles about DCM in dogs. They were helpful to get more insight into the condition, treatments and possible outcomes.

How has the Healthcare Subscription helped you?
It has given peace of mind that vet appointments are covered, and discount on the medicine costs.
